New moves in Sefton

Issue No. 1969

The North West regional committee of the Unison union has launched an urgent financial appeal for members in the Sefton branch on Merseyside.

After three days of action by 2,000 members, the branch is now moving into a period of selective action by key groups to stop the victimisation of two branch officers.

In the last year the branch has been locked out of council premises used as the Unison office twice, and had six activists suspended.

The remaining two activists who are still suspended — Nigel Flanagan and Paul Summers — led a successful campaign against the privatisation of Sefton’s council housing earlier this year.

Merseyside trade unionists plan to hold a rally to support Nigel and Paul, with Gate Gourmet workers sharing the platform.

The new address and contact details for the branch are Sefton Unison, Mersey Seaman’s Mission, Colonsay House, 20 Crosby Road South, Liverpool L22 1RQ, phone 0151 928 9911 or e-mail
