Bolton march against Section 9 and deportations

by Jason Travis, Bolton NUT
Issue No. 1971

Around 500 people gathered in Bolton last Saturday for the first national demonstration against Section 9, and against all deportations, called by the Sukula Family Must Stay campaign.

The family fled the Democratic Republic of Congo over three years ago.

Under Section 9 of the 2004 Asylum and Immigration Act families such as the Sukulas, that lose their asylum claim have all benefits withdrawn and are told to leave their accommodation.

The next step in the national campaign against Section 9 will be a protest on Cardiff City Hall steps, 12 noon, Saturday 22 October.
