Terminal 5

Issue No. 1972

Steel erectors at Heathrow Terminal 5 were continuing their fight for a pay rise this week.

The 102 workers in the Amicus union struck on Wednesday of last week for £1 an hour extra. Because there was no agreement between bosses and the union, workers were to strike again on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

They will strike every Tuesday and Wednesday until they get an agreement.

This is a key battle for Heathrow workers. New British Airways chief executive Willie Walsh wants to use the new Terminal 5 to attack workers’ conditions. If the steel erectors win, it will help BA staff drive the bosses’ plans back.
