Scottish Power

Issue No. 1972

Energy unions have vowed to do “all in their power” to avoid compulsory redundancies after Scottish Power’s announcement of 450 job losses.

Some 270 jobs will go in the next six months from three offices in Glasgow.

Unison Scotland union official Gerry Crawley said the unions would try to ensure that job losses were voluntary.

Certainly it would be an outrage if workers were faced with demands for compulsory job cuts.

But a large number of union members are also wondering whether it is right to allow the company to get away with devastating the workforce as long as it is on a voluntary basis.
