The Coventry demo

There was a lively demonstration of 200 people through Coventry last Saturday against job cuts.

The demonstration was called by the PCS civil service workers’ union to oppose job losses at the Learning and Skills Council, which has its headquarters in Coventry.

Some 600 jobs will be lost in Coventry alone.

PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka spoke about the need for more united action involving trade unions and community groups to stop privatisation, outsourcing and job cuts.

Mark Serwotka said that half of the strike days lost last year were due to PCS union members taking action.

He said that he would have had that figure sooner, but PCS members at the Office for National Statistics were on strike.
