Socialist Worker appeal

Total so far £87,157

Issue No. 1977

Your donations to Socialist Worker’s £150,000 appeal made it possible to produce the four page special on the French riots in this week’s paper.

We were able to send a reporting team to Paris, print extra pages and make full use of colour in the paper.

The total cost was around £800 — money well spent but impossible without your help.

This is precisely the sort of result we want to achieve every week in the paper.

When selling the paper this week, why not show the coverage to other readers and ask for a little extra, on top of the normal price, towards our appeal?

Last week the Socialist Worker appeal film screening of The Proud Valley, starring Paul Robeson, was a great success.

Around 500 people came and £1,800 was raised for the appeal through tickets, CD sales and donations.

We were very pleased that, despite poor health which has forced him to cancel many commitments, Tony Benn attended and gave an inspiring introduction to the film.

Among the donations sent in from readers and supporters was £100 from a family with relatives in the US.

They sent the money to congratulate the paper on its coverage of Hurricane Katrina and for its consistent attacks on the Bush regime and its policies.
