Unite Against Fascism campaign to halt BNP

Issue No. 1979

Unite Against Fascism campaigners were out in force over the weekend campaigning against the fascist British National Party (BNP), which was standing in council by-elections in two wards in Thurrock, Essex, on Thursday of this week.

The Unite campaigners have already leafleted and canvassed Grays Riverside ward twice, urging people to use their vote against the BNP.

Some 50 anti-fascists from a broad range of organisations turned out last Sunday.

The local Thurrock newspaper has also taken up the Unite message of unity against the BNP, displaying it on the front page of its latest issue.

The Nazis have been rattled by the Unite campaign.

They physically attacked a Unite campaigner last week and have distributed leaflets smearing Unite.

Earlier on in the campaign they produced a fake Unite leaflet in another crude attempt at conning voters.
