Home secretary Charles Clarke last month agreed to the US’s request to extradite Babar Ahmad on trumped up “terrorism” charges. Babar’s wife Mrs Ahmad writes about the next stage in the campaign to free him.
In light of the home secretary’s shameless decision last month to extradite Babar to the US, we have launched the next stage of our campaign.
We’ve chosen the slogan “We are all Babar Ahmad” to highlight the fact that this decision is an injustice against all of us, not just Babar.
We need everyone’s help now to pressure the government to scrap the Extradition Treaty 2003, which denies Babar the chance to see or challenge the so called evidence against him in Britain.
Socialist Worker readers in the past have been among our most committed supporters. Even if people have written to their MPs before regarding Babar’s case, we would urge them to do so again.
Time is very short. Babar’s high court appeal hearing could be as early as March. If we lose, he could be on the plane within 28 days to a nation currently looking into legalising torture of alleged terror suspects.
