Demonstration called as council moves to sack Eileen Short

Issue No. 1983

A demonstration has been called against Tower Hamlets Council's move to sack Eileen Short this Friday. She has been waiting for redeployment since October 2005 when she was made redundant from her job in the press office. Fifty two MPs signed an early day motion in her support. Campaigners believe her redundancy was linked to her activism in Defend Council Housing.

The demonstration and rally will be outside Tower Hamlets Town Hall this Friday, 13 January, from 4.30pm . It is vital that as many people as possible come down with union banners to show their support and send a very loud clear message to the council.

Rush messages of protest to the Chief Executive, Christine Gilbert 020 7364 4162, e-mail christine.gilbert@towerhamlets.gov.uk and to Councillor Michael Keith, Leader of the Council 020 7364 4668, e-mail michael.keith@towerhamlets.gov.uk

Copy any messages to Tower Hamlets Unison towerhamlets@unisonfree.net

The Town Hall is at Mulbery Place, 5 Clove Crescent. The easiest way to get there is via Blackwall DLR. The only bus that goes direct to the Town Hall is the 277, it's the final stop on the route.
