Revolt at home is worrying Blair

Issue No. 1"

TONY BLAIR will have other worries on his mind while plotting with George Bush to intensify the war on the Iraqi people.

Blair faced a backbench revolt in parliament over the crucial vote on foundation hospitals as Socialist Worker went to press. The bill to create a new type of partially privatised hospital has been central to Blair’s plans to “reform” the NHS.

In December he will face another possible revolt over top-up fees for university students.

At the back of his mind will be the fear that the unrest that was seen recently in the post is beginning to spread and find an expression in other industries.

Everyone who supports the protests against Bush this week should be organising to connect the anger with Blair over the war on Iraq with the anger over issues at home.
