Don’t let them extradite Babar Ahmad

Issue No. 1988

Campaigners for Babar Ahmad, who has been detained for 18 months in Woodhill prison and faces extradition to the US on trumped up terrorism charges, will meet in the Houses of Parliament on Thursday of this week.

Babar’s case comes up before the High Court on Monday of next week. He is appealing against the home secretary’s decision last year to rubber stamp the US’s extradition request.

“Not only will we be fighting a foreign power known for its human rights abuses, we will also be fighting our own government which has failed yet again to protect the basic rights of its own citizens,” said Mrs Ahmad, Babar’s wife.

Babar’s case has attracted support from across the anti-war movement. London mayor Ken Livingstone is the latest politician to join calls for an urgent review of the extradition treaty that effectively allows the US to kidnap British citizens at will.

Extradition treaty meeting, 6.45pm, Thursday 16 February, Attlee Suite, House of Commons. For more go to www.freebabarahmad.com
