Tower Hamlets

Over 300 people came to a Stop the War rally in Tower Hamlets, east London on Wednesday of last week. The audience, which reflected the diversity of the local community, heard speakers including George Galloway, Rose Gentle and Tony Benn.


Some 300 people attended a meeting with Tony Benn in Haringey, north London, on Tuesday of last week.


Protests were due to greet the visit of US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice to Blackburn this week. Rice will be the guest of foreign secretary Jack Straw, the town’s MP, who is also taking her on a tour of Liverpool.

Rally at St Wilfred’s Community School, Blackburn, 8pm, Friday 10 March. Demonstration at Liverpool town hall, 1pm, Saturday 11 March.
