Youth workers

by Dave Kuivala, Nottingham
Issue No. 1891

MEMBERS OF the Community and Youth Workers Union (CYWU) were set to strike on Friday this week over pay, conditions, and the continuing crisis in the Youth Service. This is the first time that the union has voted to take strike action 87 percent voted for action.

We are being offered a pathetic 3 percent pay rise. The numbers of youth workers has fallen every year since 1980. To solve this problem the employers are planning to remove the professional qualification needed. Three quarters of local authorities plan to spend less on the youth service than they did ten years ago. We need your support for our strike.
