You can help Respect make history

Issue No. 1996

'Remember how you felt the day after last year’s general election when George Galloway won Bethnal Green & Bow for Respect? That victory made history.

This year we have a chance to make history again in east London. Respect is standing candidates across England in the 4 May council elections.

But in the boroughs of Tower Hamlets and Newham we stand to make a breakthrough. Both boroughs are under the grip of New Labour administrations hooked on privatisation and neo-liberalism.

All this comes as anger at New Labour nationally is reaching a peak. The war now threatens to spill over to Iran. Tony Blair’s “cash for coronets” scam recalls the sleaze of John Major’s government.

In east London there is a chance to channel this anger, but there’s nothing automatic about Respect breaking through.

That’s why we’re appealing to Respect supporters to come to east London next Saturday, 22 April, to help deliver a killer blow to Blair. We’ll be meeting outside Liverpool Street station at 10.30am and marching to our offices in Bethnal Green. We will then be campaigning in Newham and Tower Hamlets.

Come along and be part of a movement that can transform the political landscape.'
