Civil service round up

Issue No. 1999

The elections for the national executive of the PCS union have begun. Socialist Worker is urging its supporters and readers to campaign and vote for the Democracy Alliance slate.

Socialist Worker supporters Sue Bond and Andy Reid are running as part of this slate.

The discredited “moderate” supporters of the former general secretary Barry Reamsbottom are also standing.

The Blairites are standing as 4 The Members. The track record of these groups is one of surrendering to management and failing to protect members.

They are now trying to claim the credit for the work done by the Democracy Alliance and socialist national executive.

The ballot closes on 25 May. In the next few weeks most groups will be voting for the group executive. Socialist Worker urges a vote for Left Unity candidates.

Some 46 security guards in the PCS working for outsourcing firm MacLellan in the north east of England struck for two days last week over pay. They had been promised improvements when they were transferred to MacLellean. But the employer has refused to negotiate.
