Slaughter in Afghanistan

Issue No. 2002

The US military in Afghanistan celebrated an air strike on a village this week which they claim killed 20 Taliban fighters.

But Asadullah Khalid, the governor of Kandahar, admitted 16 civilians had been killed in the air strike on Azizi, while a further 16 had been wounded and taken to hospitals.

“These sort of accidents happen during fighting,” he explained. A US military spokesman said, “We’re certain we hit the right target.”

Zurmina Bibi, whose eight month old baby was wounded in the attack, said about ten people were killed in her home, including three or four children.“There were dead people everywhere,” she said.
