Tell It Like It Is campaign launch

Issue No. 2003

Following the success of the Tell It Like It Is book highlighting how the education system fails black children, a campaign of the same name is set to be launched on Saturday 17 June at 11am outside 10 Downing Street.

Black children are three times more likely to be excluded from schools than white children and they lag 17 percent behind their white counterparts in attaining GCSEs of A* to C standard.

The Tell It Like It Is campaign has published a six point charter that challenges the government to reverse its attacks on black children and address the real problems.

This means tackling racism and inequality, and gearing resources towards high quality education for all. There will be a march for change on Saturday 4 November in central London.

Campaigners say the situation for black children in school today resembles that of 30 years ago, when Bernard Coard wrote a pioneering pamphlet pinpointing how racism led to underachievment by black children in schools.
