DELEGATES FROM around the country attended an Institute of Employment Rights conference on pension provision recently. It discussed two key issues-the future provision for pensions and the problems with existing pension schemes.

Rodney Bickerstaffe, the president of the National Pensioners' Convention made a rousing speech. He said, 'Remember that we're the fourth strongest economy on earth. Not my words, but those of Gordon Brown.

'We've spent billions on the war so far. But we only need £1 billion to tell people in old people's homes that they don't need to pay for personal care.'
