This Thursday will see the beginning of Europe’s biggest left wing conference in central London. Marxism 2006 will continue until Monday of next week.
There are over 200 meetings with speakers including Tariq Ali, George Galloway MP, Roland Denis, Victoria Brittain, Adrian Mitchell, Doreen Lawrence, Bernadette McAliskey, Oscar Olivera, Walden Bello and many others.
Over 1,500 students have signed up for the event.
New speakers include actor Saffron Burrows introducing a screening of The Battle of Algiers on Saturday evening.
Jean Binta Breeze will recite her poetry in Riding on de Riddym on Sunday evening.
This will be followed by a celebration of John Coltrane’s life with Martin Smith and jazz musician Gilad Atzmon.
Acclaimed director Ken Loach will speak on the cinema of liberation on Monday evening.
This will be followed by a screening of his film Land and Freedom, about the Spanish Civil War.
