BBC strike called off

Issue No. 2010

Unions at the BBC called off their strike ballot over pay, pensions and compulsory redundancies after talks with management resulted in a new offer.

Thousands of members of the NUJ, Bectu, Amicus and the Musicians Union were set to be balloted.

Pete Murray, a member of the NUJ national executive and deputy father of the chapel at BBC Scotland, told Socialist Worker, “A solid statement by the four unions threatening industrial action has forced the BBC to move.

“It shows united action can win something. We don’t know what the concessions on offer are yet. This will be revealed at the meeting of workplace reps from all four unions on Wednesday of this week.”
