Pensions pitfalls

Issue No. 2011

A report from the authoritative Pensions Policy Institute (PPI) has confirmed many of the criticisms put forward by Socialist Worker when the government’s pension “reforms” were published earlier this year.

The PPI says the effect of the changes will be:

  • Most people will receive less than £135 a week after the reform of state pensions. The government had suggested that most would get £135 a week or more.
  • The White Paper proposals change the overall income distribution of older people very little, but if anything give more to higher income people than those on lower incomes.
