Repression on the West Bank

Issue No. 2011

The Israeli assault is not just taking place in the Gaza Strip. Abedwahab Sabbah, a Palestinian activist in the West Bank, writes, “In the past three months Israel has continued its policy of assassinating Palestinian leaders.

“Five leaders of the al-Asqa Martyrs Brigade, three leaders of Islamic Jihad and seven leaders of the military wing of Hamas have been killed.

“Over 1,000 Palestinians have been arrested in the West Bank during this period.

“Israel has arrested eight Hamas Palestinian Authority ministers and 23 Hamas members of the Palestinian Council.

“It has closed off all the West Bank cities.

“The Israeli invasion of West Bank cities has continued, reaching Jenin and Tubas.

“In the last few days the Israeli army has begun an operation in Nablus which has so far killed six Palestinian civilians and destroyed the Palestinian ministry of the interior building.

“Israel intends to destroy the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank.

“But Palestinians continue to resist. There was a demonstration in Ramallah against the invasion of Gaza.

“The village of Bil’n continues to hold protests every Friday against Israel’s apartheid wall. The Israeli army broke up a demonstration in the village of Izbat Tabibwas.”

Join the protest. Voices for Lebanon and Palestine. Assemble 1-3pm, Sunday 30 July, Trafalgar Square, London. Organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign. For more details Go to
