Over 100 striking medical secretaries marched through Sunderland last week as part of their fight to win the pay rise they deserve. The secretaries are determined to continue their all-out indefinite strike to force their NHS trust bosses to recognise the value of their vital work.
The fight of medical secretaries across the north east of England is now hotting up. Medical secretaries at two more NHS trusts have voted overwhelmingly to strike. Secretaries at South Tyneside NHS trust planned to strike on Friday of this week, and secretaries at South Durham for three days next week-from Tuesday 9 April to Thursday 11 April.
This new round of action, combined with the all-out strike at Sunderland, could put real pressure on NHS trust bosses across the region. Everyone should get behind the fight of these women workers, who are some of the lowest paid in the NHS. Take collection sheets around your workplace, or better still invite a striker to address a union or canteen meeting.
