Walkout by Leicester delivery office

by a CWU member
Issue No. 2016

Workers at Leicester’s north delivery office walked off shift to hold a CWU union meeting last week after they heard management were demanding the office lose 100 hours worth of jobs from their depot.

Management had insisted that the office’s sick record was too high.

It is claiming that if this was cut back then, taken with other savings and speed-ups, the office could easily cut out 100 hours.

But workers feel that they are already pushed too hard and that there is already a crackdown on attendance.

One postal worker, who had diverted from his round when he heard that his mother had fallen down stairs, was informed that he could be disciplined for wilful delay of the mail!

Workers are demanding that there be no cuts and have launched a work to rule.

Further action is possible if management continue with its aggressive attitude over this issue.
