Strike planned at Rolls Royce, Derby

Issue No. 2020

Around 2,500 Amicus union members at the Rolls Royce plant in Derby are set to strike after rejecting a second pay offer from the company.

Amicus engineers and skilled workers at the plant voted by 64 percent to reject the company’s latest pay offer of 3.5 percent plus a £500 one off payment.

Workers believe the offer is inadequate given the company’s hugely increased profits, which are up by 49 percent.

Glenn Johnson, the Amicus regional officer, said, “By every conceivable measure Rolls Royce is doing incredibly well and much of that is down to their skilled and loyal staff.

“We and our members believe that they should be sharing more of their very healthy profits with the people that have generated them—their employees.”
