It looks likely that workers for GNER will ballot over industrial action against the company who intend to slash ticket office staff by 50 percent.
The TSSA union has authorised a ballot and the RMT union indicated it will resist job cuts that are aimed solely at squeezing profits to satisfy Sea Containers creditors and shareholders.
Sea Containers who operate the franchise, are in debt and have been attempting to renegotiate their franchise to get more public subsidy.
The fat cats of Sea Containers are happy to cash in on profits from public services until they take a hit. Then it is not their bonuses that suffer but our jobs and public services.
The government should recognise Sea Containers is incapable of running public transport and put the franchise under public control.
