Discovering Leicester’s Radical Past 1848-1939
Record Office, Wigston, Leicester
Until Thu 16 Nov Free
This new exhibition includes photographs, posters, handbills and other objects to chart the progress of a variety of radical movements.
These include the 470 unemployed who went on the hunger march to London in 1905, the three days of “Bastille” riots in 1848 against the Poor Laws and peace campaigners in the First World War.
There are posters for meetings with Chartist leader Fergus O’Connor, artist and socialist William Morris and women’s rights campaigner Sylvia Pankhurst. All the movement’s diversity is represented here.

The Wind That Shakes The Barley
Directed by Ken Loach

Britain’s right wing press hysterically attacked Ken Loach’s Palme d’Or winning film about the Irish struggle for freedom.
There’s no better recommendation than that. The film begins in 1920 and follows the popular resistance to the British occupation.
Make sure you buy or hire this powerful film by Britain’s greatest director.
