Partial closure threatened for Redhill College

Issue No. 2026

Redhill college in Surrey, which caters for blind, partially sighted students, and students with learning difficulties faces department closures from next July and management say there is nothing that can be done about it.

Having failed the Ofsted inspection in April due to problems with student accommodation, management has decided to close down the two main education departments of the college.

Students will face great difficulty finding another specialist college to cater for them, and there will be many redundancies.

The UCU, Unison and SCA unions are fighting against the closures. Workers at the college believe that the money is available to help the college, and are having great success in collecting signatures for a petition against the closures.

Recently they had a stall in Redhill town centre where there is huge support from local people for the college.
