Ballot for action in Gloucester City Council

Issue No. 2027

The Unison union is preparing to ballot for industrial action at Gloucester City Council.

The council has threatened to withdraw the full time Unison representative, replacing the position with part time posts, one of which will be temporary.

The council argues that a slimmed down council does not need a full time worker.

Tanya Palmer, Unison regional officer for the south west said, “In the current environment this is crazy. We are going through unprecedented change with many council staff being transferred off the city council payroll out into the private or charitable sector.

“There are many, many issues regarding pensions, pay and other conditions that need resolving.

“Without a full time rep to oversee this process mistakes are going to be inevitable.”
