Solidarity with activists in Unison

Issue No. 2027

Three activists in Unison are facing disciplinary action from the union following a walkout in protest at Tony Blair’s speech to the TUC in September this year.

Tony Staunton in Plymouth, Mandy Berger in London and John McDermott in West Yorkshire are facing action.

A separate investigation over the political use of a computer bought for Tony Staunton by his Unison branch is also taking place.

It is outrageous that just as the union faces growing battles over the single status agreement in local government (see report on page 4), pensions and health cuts, it is diverting such energy into attacks on some of the leading fighters on these issues.
