The number of women out of work rose by 7,000 to 1.09 million in the three months to April.

For those women in work the gender pay gap persists.

Women earned on average 18.6 percent less than men in 2012 according to the Fawcett Society.

For full time work, women earned about 14.9 percent an hour less than men.

And 63 percent—nearly two thirds—of workers in low paid jobs are women.
