THE APPEAL total stood at £170,490.34 at the beginning of this week. That puts us within striking distance of our target. Fundraising social events were due to take place in many areas of the country this week and money is still arriving at the office which was collected two weeks ago.
Many readers were planning an end of year collection at work. That, and a big push to collect money on public sales of Socialist Worker, should take us over £175,000. The appeal office will be opening over the holiday break, so please send off any money you collect straight away. Thanks to everyone who gave to the appeal last week.
Workplace collections raised the following: Ford Dagenham, £3; PCE DETR (Nottingham), £18.50; Brighton social workers, £41; Plymouth City UNISON shop stewards, £136; Redhill College, £5; Royal Liverpool Hospital, £6; Hammersmith town hall, £20; Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Birmingham), £10; Stockport social services, £15; Pricecheck (central London), £50; Toxteth post office, £3.18.
We also received the following from various fundraising events: Camberwell sponsored walk, £73; Barnsley sponsored walk, £10; Leicester sponsored bike ride, £25; Newport sponsored walk, £13; Gillingham sponsored walk, £63; Swansea sponsored walk, £75.90. Fundraising social events were held in the following places: Greenwich and Woolwich, £62.83; Birmingham, £78.54; Cardiff Splott, £97.50; Manchester, £253.61; Sheffield, £182; Brighton, £182; South London, £118.37; Leeds, £147.
