John Sturrock was Socialist Worker’s main photographer during the 1984-5 Miners’ Strike.
All the images in this Socialist Worker special commemoration are from his vast collection on the strike.
“You knew this was the big one – all or nothing for both sides,” John said. “My memories are of people sticking together under the most difficult circumstances.
“Under other political circumstances that willingness, the human commitment to each other in struggle, the immense generosity of people is what can achieve extraordinary things in winning change in society.
“That has stayed with me more than anything else.”
