It’s clear that it is a diktat from government – and the Lord of the Dark Arts himself, business secretary Peter Mandelson – that prevents any settlement to our dispute.
Mandelson spat his dummy out of his pram after failing to get his way on Royal Mail privatisation.
Had the “sale of the century” gone ahead, he would have been a hero to all his buddies in the City.
The minister has form.
Even when he was an MP in Hartlepool he showed nothing but contempt for our service as he refused to lift a finger to save the town’s Crown Post Office.
Despite playing their part to destroy the postal service, the powers that be are doing everything they can to make public blame us and our union for the crisis.
The gutter press refer to us as “lazy postmen” and call our strikes “Royal Mail suicide”.
These attacks are designed to demoralise us, but they won’t work.
We are just in our cause, and we will win.
I want everyone in the trade union movement to shout this from the rooftops.
We should tell the public our side of the story – after all, most will trust us far more than the thieves and liars in parliament.
The government is using the media to slate the hard-working men and women of the postal service.
It’s a kick in the teeth that will be repaid in kind when we finally cease our union funding for this sham of a “Labour Party”.
