It was a disappointing election for the Scottish Socialist Party (SSP), as its vote dropped across Scotland. Keith Baldassara won one of the SSP’s best votes of 1,666 — 5.4 percent — in Glasgow South West.
Keith told Socialist Worker, “There has been a significant shift in Glasgow and Scotland to the Liberal Democrats. It is a softer vote away from Labour.
“The SSP is the only party that stood for wealth redistribution, which is in line with what 78 percent of people in a recent BBC poll said they wanted. But we were blanked out — if we’d had complete national coverage we could have held our own.
“I’m convinced that this is just a blip. We will return to campaign on the day to day issues, such as the coming battle over pensions.
“There seems to be a different pattern between the elections that take place to Westminster and the local elections and those for the Scottish Parliament.”
