Earthquake hit the poorest

Haiti was in trouble before the earthquake struck.

Cakes made of edible clay had become a staple food source for many people. In the Cité Soleil area, one in five children were chronically malnourished.

The World Health Organisation estimated that 2.4 million Haitians couldn’t afford to feed themselves to the recommended daily minimum.

Half of the nine million inhabitants had no access to medical care.

This situation has been magnified a thousand times by the earthquake.

If other nations were serious about helping the people recover then they would write off all Haitian debt.
