Socialist Worker sellers were out last week campaigning against Sharon’s onslaught on the Palestinians. In just three days over 500 copies of Socialist Worker were sold on the streets in central London. In Kensington on a new sale nine sellers (including five new members) received a brilliant reception-160 copies of Socialist Worker were sold and four people joined the SWP.
Sellers used a megaphone to create a street meeting that drew shoppers to the stall. Throughout the hour and a half young people crowded round, signing petitions, taking stickers and buying papers. On another new sale in Bayswater 103 were sold. Other sales included 70 in Covent Garden, 65 at Victoria station and 102 in Tottenham Court Road.
In Ilford, east London, a new sale has been set up. A new member came along to help on the stall and brought four friends who helped petition. A total of 39 papers were sold and five people joined the SWP (including two of the people who had helped on the stall!).
Down the road in East Ham 73 copies were sold. Sellers at NDO sorting office sold close to 40 papers last week, 16 on three shifts outside and 22 inside.
