The post strike brought total closure to Royal Mail today with only a few handfuls in total crossing picket lines across Britain.
It was a hugely defiant and united response to the attempt to cut workers’ wages, impose harsh new conditions and destroy the present postal service.
It is a brilliant spearhead for the movement we need to break Gordon Brown’s pay limit and defend the post service.
There was lively picketing in many areas with 20 to 30 at many offices, and more at some. It was noticeable that at many of the smaller delivery offices there was a good turnout on the picket line.
At every picket line there was enthusiastic backing for the idea of coordinated action against the attacks across the public sector, and the arrival of delegations of civil servants, teachers and others at the picket lines deepened that feeling.
There was also a clear readiness to hold further action, and to push back the attacks from Allan Leighton, Adam Crozier and New Labour.
