A helicopter crash in Afghanistan has killed 38 Western troops—30 of them from the US.

This is the single largest loss of life for the US since it began the destruction and occupation of the country in 2001.

The Taliban claims it shot down the helicopter.

The Chinoock helicopter crashed in Wardak province on Saturday of last week.

The US government says it is investigating the incident.

This attack is another bleak chapter in the story of the long Afghan war.

Thousands of Afghan civilians have been killed, more made homeless and countless lives have been destroyed.

This is the bleak reality of the West’s “humanitarian intervention”.
