Egypt’s first presidential elections since the revolution that toppled dictator Hosni Mubarak will begin on 23 May.

The restrictions on who can stand are still to be decided.

Omar Suleiman, who was the hated intelligence chief of Mubarak’s regime has said that he wants to stand.

But he may be stopped by the ruling military council, who under pressure from the movement have said they want to block old regime loyalists from standing.

Leading Muslim Brotherhood member Khairat el-Shater has also said he will stand.

He says Suleiman wants to steal the revolution from the people.
