Workers at the Suez Trust for Weaving Industries in Egypt entered their eighth day of occupying their factory as Socialist Worker went to press.
The 1,200 workers staged a sit-in in April last year to demand a share of profits, job contracts for temporary workers, social insurance, and better health and safety procedures.
The strikers won, but management then reneged on the deal and victimised strike leaders. On 14 January they reoccupied the factory demanding that the company meet its original demands.

The Sixth Cairo Conference is calling on British unions to send delegates to the workers’ forum being held in the Egyptian capital 27-30 March 2008. The forum will be a major gathering for strike leaders, peasant delegates and democracy activists.
