Portugal’s Left Bloc got 10 percent of the vote in last Sunday’s general election, securing 16 MPs.

The radical left party doubled its vote from the 2005 general election and overtook the Communist Party.

The governing Socialist Party – Portugal’s equivalent of the Labour Party – won the election, but lost its overall majority.
