THE HORRIFIC result of NATO’s war in the Balkans continues. Last week a column of Serb refugees fleeing ethnic cleansing was set upon by Albanians. Dutch troops stopped the attack. But a UN representative with the Serb convoy said, ‘I’m surprised I wasn’t burned alive in my car.’

The Scotland on Sunday paper reports a ‘new wave of violence’ sweeping Kosovo. ‘Last week saw repeated attacks on Kosovo’s Serb minority, involving increasing murders of elderly people, attacks on children, and arson.’ NATO’s war created even more disaster for the people of the Balkans. Russia’s attempt to copy its tactics has meant similar misery for the people of Chechenia.
