More than 3,000 teachers and lecturers across Wales struck on Wednesday of last week to defend their pensions.

The strike, by members of the UCAC union, hit more than 300 schools.

UCAC members overwhelmingly backed discontinuous strikes over pensions in a recent ballot.

They could join coordinated strikes on 30 November.

UCAC general secretary Elaine Edwards described the government’s pension reforms as “totally unnecessary and absolutely unfair”.

She added, “The problem is the enormous deficit created by the bankers.”

UCAC is now preparing to join a lobby of parliament on Wednesday 26 October.
