The media has already begun scare stories around the election challenge to the leader of the AEEU section of the Amicus union, Sir Ken Jackson. The Daily Mail described last week how Blair’s favourite union leader, ‘ultra-loyal Sir Ken Jackson’, was being taken on by the ‘militant hardliner’ Derek Simpson.
The Mail claims Simpson’s campaign has ’caused panic in Labour’s high command’. The right wing press will battle hard to try to stop Derek being elected. Every activist in the AEEU section should throw themselves behind Derek’s campaign. A defeat for Ken Jackson would be a massive blow for Blair and New Labour.
Derek Simpson has to get a minimum of 15 AEEU section branches this month to nominate him to stand for general secretary. Any AEEU section member can demand a meeting if one is not scheduled.
There have already been campaign meetings in Preston, Scotland, London and Gateshead. The next is planned in Bristol on Sunday.
