‘We want people in Britain to know the truth about Tony Blair’s ‘welcome’ in West Africa. In Ghana a planned protest against Blair was not allowed under security laws. Yet, despite very short notice, hundreds of people crammed into a rally to speak out against his visit.

Many ordinary people in West Africa quite rightly associate Blair not only with military imperialism but with economic imperialism as well. They also associate him with racist anti-immigrant and anti-worker privatisation policies in Britain.

These same people positively identify with, and draw encouragement from, the resistance put up by workers, anti-racists, stop the war campaigners and anti-capitalists in Britain and elsewhere. This is exactly the substance of the daily battles being waged here by millions of workers, peasant farmers, students and the poor majority.

We are at the sharp end of the extreme devastation wrought by the policies Blair promotes. We know the cost of the inhuman system in whose defence he willingly spills the blood of tens of thousands of innocents right across the world.’
