Liverpool airport baggage handlers forced their bosses to back off from making compulsory redundancies.

Some 150 Servisair workers at John Lennon airport last month started an all-out strike against mass sackings.

Fire crews were preparing to ballot on whether join them when bosses backed down.

GMB union organiser Eddie Parker said that bosses would now offer a voluntary redundancy package to 23 workers.

The two-week walkout hit flights by low-cost airlines pushing the firm to bring in managers from other airports to try to break the strike.
