Last Saturday the National Union of Journalists hosted a packed out conference entitled ‘New Threats to Media Freedom – how we fight back’.
Former captive Alan Johnston explained how the biased reporting instigated by media owners made conditions for journalists increasingly dangerous. Alan was a BBC correspondent kidnapped in Gaza early in 2007. He was released after 114 days.
Speaking from the same platform David Crouch from Media Workers Against the War debunked the recent myths about the Iranian speedboat incident. He explained how the reporting of it increased tension during Bush’s middle eastern tour and how the facts were completely misrepresented.
