The trial of student protesters Alfie Meadows and Zac King has been aborted and a retrial scheduled to begin on 11 February next year.

The hearing has been plagued by delays in the last week due to the health issues of Zac, then the judge, then a lawyer. The latest trial was itself a retrial after a jury failed to reach a verdict in their cases in April.

Alfie has now been on bail for almost two years after being arrested. He and Zac face charges of violent disorder after joining a protest against tuition fee rises on 9 December 2010 outside parliament.

Alfie was hit so hard on the head with a police baton on the protest that he almost died and had to have emergency brain surgery. Alfie and Zac deny the charges. Rush messages of support to them via [email protected]
