Workers at Ambala Foods in Stratford, east London, were forced to return to the picket lines on Thursday and Friday of last week when their offer to end their pay dispute was firmly rejected.

Bosses also suspended two part time workers and accused union members of threatening behaviour.

One of the sacked workers, Farooq, says, “I was sacked because I joined the strike — there was no other reason.”

The mood on the picket line last week was more determined than ever.

There are signs of growing support on the night shift. They have not so far been part of the strike.
